Let’s Party Like It’s 1899!
It’s on! This Sunday, July 1st, 2007, at 6:00pm SLT, I’ll be hosting a party in the ballroom on the third floor of Writer Steam Works in Caledon SteamSkyCity to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.
The theme of the party is Canada: Building a Nation. The dress code isn’t rigid, but let’s dress up in a style that might have been in vogue around July 1st, 1867. At the time, the provinces that joined confederation, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Upper and Lower Canada (the province of Canada, soon to be called Ontario and Quebec respectively) were colonies of England. This being the Victorian era, that would have been the style of the day. Of course, this being Canada, there would have been trappers, lumberjacks, fishermen, miners, voyageurs, etc. . . so let’s have fun with it! After all, it’s a party!
Music will be provided by Her Grace, the Duchess of Carntaigh, Gabrielle Riel and will be contemporary. I wanted a “now and then” feel to the party. 😎 Fireworks will be around 8:30 (you might want to force the sun to midnight!) and rocket or skydiving lift rides will be available until then. Be careful with skydiving as landing upon the floating city without the chute deployed can be painful.
